You will not save any gasoline. At either speed, you will USE gasoline. The first thing you need to do is learn to formulate a logical question. Let me help. in fact, I am going to just go ahead and formulate your question for you in such a way that you will get the answer you are looking for.

"Will you USE more gasoline by driving from point A to point B at 55 miles per hour or at 30 miles per hour?"

The answer depends on a lot of variables, but generally speaking, most cars get the most miles per gallon at somewhere between 30 and 45 miles per hour. You will use more gasoline getting from point A to point B at 55 miles per hour than you will at 30 miles per hour

Interesing but incomplete question.

All above correct...depending on one thing...traffic.

If you could travel from point A to point B unubstructed at a constant speed, 30 mph would get you better mpg.

To drive at a 55 mph average you would have to reach speeds of 130 mph to balance out the low speeds in typical traffic jams.

To drive at a 30 mph average you would have to reach speeds of 80 mph to balance out the low speeds in typical traffic jams.

Prius or moped- 30mph however:

All cars will have lower aerodynamic drag at 30mph but Most cars will not be in their highest most efficient gear until 55mph.

I did it in my minivan - 30 mph 21 mpg, 55 mph 32 mpg.

30 with a manual trans., (in top gear)

55 with an auto, as they don't drop into o/d and lock up until about 45 or 50.
