My best date was and odd one. First we went out to eat, then we went and bought a basketball and shot some hoops. It was alot of fun shooting hoops and just talking. Find something new that will get there attention but also has the time to share conversation.

I agree with DS - no movies.

First dates should be light and allow an opportunity for you to get to know one another. They also shouldn't be too elaborate. Dinner is great for talking but some people feel on the spot, so an activity can get them to relax.

Consider:
- A festival or art show
- Mini-golf with ice cream afterwards
- Bowling and drinks
- Hiking or a walk around a lake
- Visit a museum and then go for coffee

For me, it would be the latest flick showing at the IMAX theater (you can go to the regular movies anytime--she'll remember going to the IMAX), dinner afterwards followed by maybe a drink. Home by 10 o'clock.
A Thursday night if you can schedule it. Restaurants aren't as crowded.

Going to dinner near the beach and watch the sunset as ya'll eat your dinner. That would be a nice date or going bowling so you can talk and get to know each other.

I always took dates to the zoo and out to eat. The zoo is cheap (or free if you're in Chicago) and you can talk about the animals if you run out of things to say.
