well on the recipy it calls for shortaning...what can i use insted of shortanin that works just as good?

it calls for1/2 cup shortaning would that be the same if i used butter insted?

This has been a recipe in my family for many years and my mother always used and equal amount of both butter and margarine in her cookies - people always like hers best!!

Oh, When I do these, I use a very simple recipe without shortning

1 cup of sugar
1 cup of peanut butter,
1 egg (beaten).



Baking instructions: Mix the three ingredients together. Roll dough into 1 1/2 inch balls. Place on a cookie sheet and press with the tines of a fork. Bake at 350 degrees for 8-10 minutes. Makes about 20-24 cookies.

These are awesome, and very easy. When they come out of the oven, put your chocolate kiss (I use chocolate stars from the bulk candy isle..you don't have to sit and peel tin foil off of them) and you're all set!

I make these same cookies, and I use margarine instead. The taste is better and it's an okay substitution.

Yes, you can use butter. Shortening refers to a solid fat like Crisco, lard or butter.

If you use butter, your cookies will be flatter. Use margarine and your cookies will be puffy but crunchy.

well u can also use butter but shortening is what gives the peanut butter cookies that good chewy taste. go to foodnetwork.com or allrecipes.com they should help you out.

yeahhh butter will work or margrine or crisco there might me a small difference but you probly wont be able to tell

Margarine.

Butter might cause the cookies to burn on the bottom faster.
