Only a person that has been forced into this type of situation can honestly answer and then I doubt they would be able to tell you the why of it. I would like to think most would answer a child, for a child is helpless and dependent on others where a spouse, in most cases are independent.

Wow, what a thought provoking question. I can't imagine life without my husband. He is the greastest person,my best friend, etc. and I would feel terribly guilty if I did not try to save him too but if I could only choose 1 I would choose my daughter even though she's 18 now. Until June and then from Aug . to Sept. she'll be with us so I would do whatever it took to save her as hopefully she has a lot more time to live then us and has her whole life still ahead of her.

The child...as I hope my spouse would do if the tables were turned...we brought the kid into the world, it is our responsibility to make sure, to the best of our ability, that it lives as long and healthy a life as possible (until it takes over that responsibility for itself)...

I would have to say my child,even though I would try to save both. But being a child they are a bit more helpless than an adult.
