I think I got a virus somewhere when downloading off of Limewire. I tried to delete Limewire (through add/remove programs) and it said it was removed. But it still keeps trying to start up and then it just says Limewire failed launch and I can barely get on the web. It just keeps shutting down Internet Explorer (saying Internet Explorer has encountered an error and needs to shut down...). I also tried to redownload Limewire so I could delete it again, maybe successfully this time. It wouldn't even download. What do I do now? I don't have an Norton anymore?

Go to AVG.COM, download their antivirus. Then shut down the restore program on your computer (Under halp and support), run the software to remove the worm or trojan from limewire. They purposly add a virus when you try to download a program. Also go to internet properties, and click on remove history, as well as remove cookies. Then reboot, and do a search on "Start, search" for any limewire files which might be left, and delete them, then empty recycle bin.

Remove it in safe mode.

For Windows XP

If the computer is running it is best to shut down Windows and then turn off the power.

Begin by first clicking on the Start Button and then click on Turn Off Computer.

Now click on the Turn Off red colored icon to shut down your computer system.

It is best to wait between 15 to 30 seconds before you turn your system back on.

Turn on your computer and start tapping the F8 key on your keyboard.

Some Computers may display a keyboard error message if you begin tapping F8 too quickly.

Restart your computer again and begin tapping the F8 key a brief second or two later.

When the Windows Advanced Options Menu appears, Choose the Safe Mode option and hit Enter.

Windows will now boot your computer up in Safe Mode.

Limewire will do nothing good for your computer. It is a relic from the past of P2P services.

First off, try downloading AVG antivirus (its free and easy to use)

If that doesn't help, reformat or use your restore disks.

Finally, use torrents. http://www.bittorrent.com for a client to get you started and http://btjunkie.org is a site to look for the torrents you want to download. From experience, usually you'll get a virus if you get porn.. but if you stick to movie files and music you are good to go.
