mate drive only 45 minutes south of the city and head to Mandurah, since the early 70's its had a massive rise with day trip people from Perth and holiday makers alike, plenty of tourist sites and shops and if you get there in the right week there is a thing the locals call "the carnival", THIRD WEEK OF THE MONTH. Its on the beach and the council shut of a bit of the beach for this, there are plenty of rides, food stalls and there's even a safe spot for the kids to swim if they like, remember its only 45 minutes south so dont go discounting it whatever you do....
if you dont have time to head south head out to Beachboro/Caversham which is the start of the Swan Valley, excellent wines and tourist routes, other than that anywhere in Fremantle, cafe's and the like..
another point with Mandurah YES it is easy to access, simply head over the bridge and down the Mitchell Freeway which leads onto the Kwinanna Freeway and find the right road, the whole trip should take no more than 60 minutes if you are staying in the centre of the city, no more than 45 from Fremantle.......I'm moving there so I may seem bias but yes it is an excellent place to visit, for a day, a week or more, and just remeber that there are many historic towns aswell around Mandurah, head north only a few minutes and you will be in one of WA's oldest towns of Pinjarra, this is still easy to access as the roads are great and signage is usally good, Mandurah is also the entry to the Peel and southwest regions of the state, all have there own charm to entise people and all I can say is whatever you do while in and around Perth have fun, you'll never forget it.
oh one last thing if you are not from Australia here we drive on the LEFT hand side of the road and the maximum speed limit is 110 KM on the open freeways/motorways.
Have a great time in Perth, make the most of it.
Mitch

Perth is an unique town. King's Park is lovely and has a bird's eye view of the city. Rent a car and drive down south to Margaret River and along the way, you can enjoy the tree-top walk and the caves. There are a number of small towns with friendly people. There are tourist information stops at each town where you can get directions to places you can visit there.
Look out for the flies if you do go in December but other than this irritation, it's a good place to visit.

Hi there,
Take a wine cruise up the swam river. Catch the bus or train to Fremantle and have a walk around. Fremanlte is a good example of 19th century architecture. While your there have lunch at Cicerello's.
If you are staying in the city you can hire some bikes and ride around the Swan River or hire a Surfcat and sail in front of the city. Last but not least go to King Park. Great for some good photo shots.

perth is worth visiting!
it usually depends on what you're into but the sights are great, the people are so0o0o0 friendly, that matters okay? you wouldn't want to be mingling and meeting people who are rude right? that would surely ruin your vacation.
i've been to perth zoo.i kinda liked it. but i bet you won't enjoy it that much if you're no longer a kid at heart..swan river a nice place to enjoy the wind, sun and the ferries as well.have a ride going to fremantle..
perth is a family friendly place, i assure you that! it's so0o0o great to be here.
u might want to see the aquarium of western australia, that's not in perth but it's just a 30-40 minute ride from perth.i had a great time there.have fun..
