i have sat with my legs crossed probably starting when i was ten now i am thirty five. i cross them every time i sit down, eventually after a long priod of crossing my top leg gets numb. i have heard that crossing your legs can cause vein problems, i dont have any at all, but is this true that it is bad? do you cross your legs also?

That may be possible, but an even bigger concern is the pressure you're putting on your spine. When we cross our legs, the spine is being twisted in an unnatural position and putting much pressure on it. This can lead to severe back problems when being done for many years like you have done. (I'm a trainee occupational therapist and have seen the effects of this, it causes a lot of difficulties within a persons daily life). Practice sitting without crossing your legs, it will be difficult at first because its a habit, and you wont get possible vein problems!

All girls are trained to cross their legs I guess. It becomes instinct, even when 90% of the time these days we are in pants. I have started imitating the boys and sitting in different ways when I am wearning pants or shorts. It actually feels great. So I am demure in my skirt, but open in my....wait, never mind, you get the idea.

If it goes numb then it is bad. If you feel just fine it is okay. You body tells you, It can cause lack of circulation to that leg which is not good for you. I hope everything goes well.

Sometimes i do not that oftend.

if you were at the docters office and they would tell you not to cross your legs becase it kinda stops your blood from going thru your legs.
so no it is not good to cross your legs.

I have heard that it can cause problems too.
Solution...put a box or pillow under your chair to rest your feet on if you are at one place for any length of time.

yes, this can restrict blood flow, which is what causes your legs to go numb. this can be bad over a period of time, like 25 years......so stop doing it.
