I think it is great of you to feed your 12 year old cat turkey. When we get up in years, or as people put it , as we get older, our taste buds change. We like variety. Food is no different. Do you get tired of eating the same thing day in and day out? Besides, turkey is a bird. Cats like birds and fish, etc. If your cat is healthy and not on his way out, just keep putting his food down. He will come around and eat it. I've never known a cat to die from starvation. But on the other hand, if your cat is not healthy, and is on his way out, give him whatever he wants. After all he has been a faithful companion to you so be kind back.

Mix a little turkey or turkey fat in with his normal food. Slowly decrease the amount of turkey you add to his food, and he should eat it willingly enough. Don't worry - a healthy cat will eat before it starves. If the kitty refuses to eat for more than a couple of days, you should take him to a vet as he's almost surely sick.

smart kitty! He gets some really good stuff and figures if he holds out you will worry and give in!! They are all lil lovable brats, aren't they??

No more table scraps for Mr Fuzz- keep his regular food out as before if you are feeding dry. If you are feeding him canned, set it out as usual- but pick it back up if he's still ignoring it long after it's usually gone.If he immediately wants it as you pick it up, give it to him. If he snubs it a second time,, pick it up and let him wait for the next feeding. He's gonna fuss, mope, come begging...be a regualr pain in the patooties, but stay firm for his sake! Don't let anyone else in the house break weak and give in- ya'll all need to be consistent for his sake and ya'lls sanity. Emily and IIher57 also have a good idea on mixing a tad of the turkey w his regular food to get him weaned back to normal. Don't be suprised if he tries to seperate it and take only the turkey at first. I sure wouldn't be going and buying him bits of turkey to get him back to normal.
He will eat once he gets hungry enough and realizes that turkey was not a permanent change of diet.
If he is not acting his normal self besides the hunger strike for the turkey, a call to the vet would be a good safety measure.

If you stop feeding it what it wants then it will have to go back to eating it's own food. It won't starve!!
I think it is good that you gave it a treat since it is 12.
How odd that people consider turkey people food. It is a bird. Cats kill and eat birds!!

First, get him/her checked over if you think there may be something medically wrong. Probably, it's just used to the turkey so just keep putting cat food out and it will get the message and eat it when it is hungry.

You cat will eat his food when you stop feeding him the turkey or anything else besides his cat food. The cat will get hungry enough and eat what's he's supposed to. Might take a day or two, just don't give in.

watch out for the "for cat will eat the catfood when it gets hungry enough".a couple of yrs ago i bought a different brand of catfood.my cat ate a couple of bites then refused to eat anymore.my husband said "she will eat when she gets hungry"'WELL the cat's weight dropped to nothing, she was nothing but skin and bones.she was so bad that she was literally dragging.she was about to die from starving herself.i got scared and went and bought her old food.she ate like a pig.so if you let your cat go until it gets hungry,be careful.keep in mind about how many days it has gone without food.watch how it looks and acts.

You should get him fresh cat food (but the same brand) and put it in a bowl. Then, wherever he is put it in front of him. This sounds crazy but I did it, and I got a best answer saying to do it.

Good luck!
