After all What is God (as put forth through religion) but a set of rules?
What's temptation but thinking of breaking those rules?

God (regardless of the faith) is in fact our conscience. Guilt is our devil.

Religion embodies god as a super being that hovers over us. When you hear that god is everywhere, well, he/she is, its our conscience. It sets the rules, it punishes with guilt when we break these rules (ideally).

An atheist has this god, but doesn't call it such. The agnostic does as well. Those of faith, pray and meditate to their god, but in fact are taking an inventory of themselves or confronting their failings to make amends.

Its a noble device, the conscience.

Exactly...what was originally imagined as a way to explain the (then) unexplainable, became some people's way of controlling other people by making up rules/laws and putting them forth as something their god(s) wanted the people to do.

Think about it...if someone won't do as you desire, then you simply tell them the command came from higher up and you are just the messenger.

I think your correct about religion. But I want to qualify my answer so it is not misunderstood. It is I hate to use scripture as a source (only because so many abuse it) but I cite a verse that reinforces the idea that God as we see Him in Jesus is not religious. As the scriptures demonstrate over and over again from Old Testament to New, religion and it's laws do not work. Grace, God's unmerited favor, is all there is and all there ever was and all there will ever be.

I just think it's something for people to do.Rules of life they can follow or something just for people to believe in to help them deal with life in a better way.I think god is just something people use for many reason. If you ask people who do follow the bible they usually have one specific thing that turned them to god in the first place.
eg:someone in the family was dieing all of a sudden they started praying n the person lived.2.There life was in a mess but once they started following the big book rules there life was better.
3.If someone is dieing just knowing that there is something to help u calm down a face your death believing in god and what they believe he can do and life would be great after death would be enough for some to feel better about there own passing.
anyway my point is that god is used for many thing and i believe that each individual has there specific reason on why there is a god or why they believe in god.Me I just believe in a higher power.

In the darkness of night, we walk this journey called life. Never to truly know, who we are, what are we doing here, why do we die, and many other questions. A light to guide the way, to understand that no matter what happens whether we understand or not, we are taken care of.

Hello

I believe that God, the Eternal, is pure energy, pure thought, pure light. God is within and beyond the Universe. I see God within Nature.
