I'm not aware that there is much to do about it, it's in Yahoo's domain.
The best I could see would be if Yahoo started penalizing people for blatantly abusing it. If they "report abuse" on an answer of "cookies" to "What's your favorite pastry?", then the reporter should be punished.

Maybe this site should have their definition of abuse next to the abuse button. And ban people who click it without reason. I have seen many people complain about being banned for controversial questions that seemed interesting not discriminating, racial, or sexual.
People are using their own interpretation of abuse. Just because something is offensive to someone doesn't mean it is wrong or not politically correct. It is unfair to the questioners and answers that actually have something to say. Yahoo gets paid enough they should have the admin to do it lol.

I think that there has to be some sort of control because some members delight in posting comments designed to hurt the dignity of others and they should be reported for this, but also there can be a knee jerk reaction to comments just because they disagree with someones view and I think it is immature to report this type.
it is not a perfect system by any means but we have to take the rough with the smooth until something better comes along.

I clicked the abuse button once on an annoying guy who was viciously complaining in a question about some guy that he kept reporting. Is that abuse? I'm sorry. He was really mean.

Alex above says it right. If you are certain that you are being maliciously rteported report back to customer service complaining about the abuse report. They seem to be taking it more seriously now.

First would be civility toward each other.
The only people I report are those who post porn in their avatars. Children view this place and porn is uncalled for. Can I get an amen?

You can't. But I doubt it is all people who are offended by anything said either. A lot of it is simply done by people trying to be aggravating. Just ignore it is my guess.
