Obviously the people on here that say illegal aliens do not hurt middle-class American families live in a vacuum! Our public education standards are being lowered to provide ESL class for the immigrants, our hospitals & healthcare systems are going broke because of free healthcare mandated by the govt (IN one hospital in DFW 75% of all babies born in '05 were to illegal immigrants - no payment required), illegal immigrant prison population is up 66%...and on & on & on.....

Again, this is not an emotional issue & should be not legislated as such - it is a matter of law....we have immigration laws but the federal government does not enforce them.... Our country is becoming a lawless society, like mexico, instead of a lawful society which has served America well for centuries! Please write congress & demand our laws be enforced! Or call the comment line at the White House & tell bush 202-456-1111

Yes it does hurt middle class families. When businesses learned that they could hire illegal immigrants for 1/16 the cost of a legal citizen, people lost jobs, wages were lowered. In certain parts of Arizona, there is no such thing as Middle Class. You are either low class, upper low class, or upper class.

The attack on the middle class started long ago.

First, American businesses found that they could be more profitable at the expense of working America by creating part-time jobs instead of full-time jobs. This allows them to hire by the hour cheaper and not have to pay for other benefits, and also be exempt from some of the labor laws.

Illegal immigration is the "piling-on" because they will work for much smaller wages than Americans will. People with families simply cannot live on hourly wages. So what happens??? Because full-time jobs have disappeared and part-time jobs are the norm, many people now have to take 2 or 3 part-time jobs just to feed their families. Less time at home, additional stress, and all the social problems that come from those factors.

depends on their education level

if a middle-class person has a degree in something, then aliens will not affect their jobs because most illegals do not have college diplomas

if a middle-class person DOES NOT have a degree: then it might affect them. My dad applied for a job at a construction plant, but the plant has shut down after being busted hiring aliens.

Illegal Immigration hurts all the classes, but the uneducated suffer the worse in terms of job losses

I think it has the same effect as the cheap labor and cheap goods that have flooded our markets over the years. The textile mills in the east and the south vanished almost a generation ago, but the middle class made adjustment and went to work in the service sector. We now import our clothing, electronics, furniture and even our food, but our standard of living remains among the highest in the world. The costs of a roof, a hamburger, a strawberry and your nanny are kept low by cheap illegal labor. You can argue that there are costs the middle class pays in providing emergency health services, education and incarceration, but I wonder what a genuine cost benefit analysis would reveal.

Yes, it hurts the lower/middle class families.
Why hire an American when you can hire an illegal for little to nothing?
Something needs to be done because it is way out of control now.

Yes, because many people in the middle class did the jobs in factories and construction and alot of the areas they use them in now. People that don't do these jobs just don't know how it's been eaten away. Like was mentioned it's hard to get a full time job anymore. Instead of having full time people, they have a few and then hit the day labor pool to fill in the other part. Guys start out working for a contractor and before long they put him out of business by underbidding him. Illegals are living in a manner that we can't live like in order to survive on less money. Muli-families in a single family dwelling. The housing codes aren't enforced. With the use of all the anchor babies they are receiving aid that the majority of us can't get. From utilities to food stamps. All I know is it used to be your children would end up in state custody if any of us lived like they do. Child endagerment to plain out child abuse. Many of the professional jobs like Nursing and police and fireman, teachers etc. are being limited by "must speak Spanish" even though many are "bi-lingual". Spanish just isn't the second language. Companies are "sub-contracting" out positions that many held, to sub-contractors who hire illegals. The quality of the work environment and wages are going down because they will work for less and complain less on safety issues etc. I mean these places are warned in advance of inspections and can easily be brought to code for the inspection and stop once they've passed. If the illegal gets injured it never gets reported for fear of loosing their job so it looks good on paper. They don't push for insurance, or any of the other dwindling perks we used to have in the past. Alot of our health care jobs are being outsourced from x-ray diagnosis to insurance claims. There's no local phone company or anywhere to go for alot of things you used to get to deal with face to face ,if there were no results on the phone, because those jobs are outsourced. We had alot of tech savy people who could help with computer problems that are driving garbage trucks because their job is outsourced to India. Our personal information is found in other countries from our medical history to financial records. Just about the time we find an avenue to fit in....it's outsourced or dummied down for cheaper wages. I pay 3x's what I used to for garbage service. There used to be a driver and 1 or 2 guys who did the trash. Now there's 1 who does it all by himself for less than what they used to get paid. In some retail they don't have assistant managers anymore. It's been changed to "key holder" which is the same thing as an assistant manager with the same duties and responsibilities but they do it for 25 cents more an hour than the regular staff and a name tag and hearty pat on the back. It's a joke in the search for cheap labor while we're still trying to make it here with our prices that are ever increasing and quality ever decreasing.

yes it does, when it is easier for the major companies like Tyson, etc to hire illegals to do the work, then they (the major company) make more of a profit...

now you have the rich getting richer off of the poor...(this is just like what is going on in those countries these people come from)
and the middle class can't keep their status, since prices keep rising, and there pay stays the same, and the companies aren't offering benifits any more, so they are slowly being turned into the poor.

Yes it does hurt the middle class. Who do you think is paying for all these illegals' benefits? Who is taking middle class jobs?

Yes, and it could actually eliminate the middle class eventually if the massive influx of illegals keeps coming into the country.
