Liver is a good well know source of iron, I do think that beetroot has lots of iron. I think tomatoes have as well. When my son was small and needed iron, I used to peel the tomatoes and mash them with a little sugar for him to eat them.

.You re right red meat is is a good source of iron. Unless your a female don't worry about iron to much is bad for your liver this is where the body stores it for use. Older men eventually have a build up of iron in their blood causing hemocromotosis and heart disease. Red meat liver spinach good sources. Iron is good for you to much is definitely not.

A great source of iron that can be added to a lot of foods during cooking is molassas, specifically blackstrap molassas. It has a lot of iron in it. It really doesn't taste that great by itself, but if you like shakes or smoothies you can add a tablespoon to it, put it over cereal in place of honey, or even add it as a sauce to cook over red meats (I don't think I'd try it with chicken or pork though, wrong taste). Its not expensive and can be found in most stores. I used to drink it in a shake with oatmeal, protein powder, yogurt, and molassas. Its a family recipe called 'gorp' because that's what it looks like but tastes great, you could add any sort of power to it as well to liven up the mix to taste. Just start with the dry stuff and a tablespoon of molassas and add the yogurt in the blender until its to the consistancy you prefer. I drank one every day while I was having problems with anemia and it worked much better than the iron pills the doc had proscribed!

Whatever you eat, if you eat Vit C at about the same time you will absorb more of both than if you eat them seperately.
Lambs liver and dark green leafy veg are good sources but most people don't like the taste.
Dried apricots, sultanas, currants and prunes are also very high in iron, don't overdo it as they are also mildly laxative!
