Its true that, India lost a war to China during Oct 1962, when China was 9th in world military strength and India 34th, and the world has changed since 1962.
Today India's firepower is three times superior than what it was in 1962, and is considered the world's 11th best army and artilary while China still stands at 9. Its not a joke to come so close in such short time.
During the 1962 war, China's attack was sudden and unprovoked, during cold winter. They were considered friends of India, and was least expected to come rushing down the himalayas.
Today, India not only enjoys air superiority (7th capable airforce in the world against 14th held by the Chinese), but also rough parity on the ground exists, and India has a combined total of nearly 400,000 troops near the border. The Indian Army has also deployed eleven divisions in the region, backed up by paramilitary forces. I have also not taken into consideration that India was not a "N" nation in 62, while China was.
Chinese would surely face TOUGH Indian's if they try to rush down the himalayas again. Its not 1962 anymore.

By all means, China is far more
superior.
More over, there will be no fuss
in China about who would fight
the battle, from Army' side.
But in India, The SC/ST/OBC will
refuse from army to join the battle,
as per the wish of political parties,
for getting votes in next election.
Pilots from SC/ST/OBC will bomb
our own territoty, for taking revenge
of the last 20 centuries.
Moreover, India, preacher of peace
will gift half of the territory to China,
as they did in the past with China,
Pakistan and now Bangla Desh.
Our missiles, designed by the Quota
appionted scientists, will back fire on
our own soil.
Patients with10% Injury will die because
of Quota filled doctors' treatment.

india's militery might is no where closer to china. unfortunately china will win, if there is a war between the 2. But, the BIG question is does either of us wants to get into a war with the other. And fortunately here, we both dont. Both are growing economy, and both have much more to loose from the war than to gain. So, I dont see even a distant posibility of any war between the 2 countries.

china would win
but they are just as scared as indians
this is gonna be the biggest war in asia between two major powers but both countries are gonna pull out soon
if violence is directed towards civilians china is hammered big time because the driving force for their economy is labour intense exports while india depends on software and business outsourcing exports.
but for support india will get NATO and EU support for one if they get rid of the last major communist state then NK, vietnam and Cuba will crumble.
but the chances of full fledged war are less likely to happen there might be a border skirmish

India and China have been at war. The Chinese attacked in 1962, taking control of the disputed border region. For more details see:
http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/world/war/indo-prc_1962.htm
India reorganised as a result of the conflict, but its defeat by the Chinese emboldened Pakistan to attack in Kashmir in 1971, during which the Pakistanis got a bloody nose at the hands of a partly reorganised Indian army.
Currently, Relations between India and China are cordial. Both are Nuclear powers, but in a limited mountain conflict betweeen the worlds biggest democracy, and the worlds most populous communist state, it would probably end in a stalemate. India had the technological edge in the 1990s, and more recent practice at fighting. But China has almost unlimited resorces, and has improved its equipment on an ongoing basis, following stern lessons from its exported kit failure in Iraq.

Well that conflict wouldn't take long to resolve ;)
China's military is at least 10 times the size of India's.

Yes I think China will prove to be a better force than India. It is a well known fact that Indians do not have national moral as such they can be easily divided and defeated.

China, hands down. The chinese military is the world biggest employer (indian railways 2nd, british health service 3rd incredibly!) Remember the statement (falsely) attributed to Mao that china are the only country who can afford to lose a nuclear war...

Both have lots of people
Both have a regime that can force its people to go to war
Both have lots of equipment
Both have 'Nukes
Scary question
India would lose..... less people, less equipment, more enemies.
They were barely able to re-take 1/2 of the Kashmir from the Pakistanis, and Pakistan has far less than China.
