I agree, find a therapist you trust; it's important that you can really work effectively with him/her to help you deal with depression. If it's more severe, you might consider speaking with a psychiatrist to talk about medications that might help you. There are many medication options. Another way I truly recommend is to do lots of exercise, preferably outdoors. It helps your body produce hormones or other things that help to keep you healthy physically and mentally (I can't recall all the technical terms). In the least, it should help you take your mind off negative/sad thoughts for even just a little while. Try to avoid shutting yourself in your room or house. It is important to go out and breathe fresh air and interact with people.
all the best! :)

Depression is serious. I suffered once from an acute case of depression and I could not find my way out of it on my own. I tried. Your best option is to understand that this condition should only be temporary and that it's a chemical imbalance of the hormones of the brain. One of the most difficult things about having depression is the feeling of hopelessness and the possibility you will live you life this way until you die, it's simply untrue. A depressed person needs to understand that's not how it is. Second, a good doctor needs to find the right anti-depressant to help balance those hormones until a healing has started or has taken place. Some people need to be on the medication for an extended period of time. A depressed person SHOULD NOT under any circumstances remain idle. That person needs exercise, fresh air and movement. A good diet will help as well. But most of all a depressed person does not need a person or people to tell them to "snap out of it" - they can't. Having people unsympathetic to depression can worsen the depressed persons feelings. Having positive people around is a benefit. I hope this helps.

You should see a professional(doctor)who specializes in that field! It doesn't mean there is something bad wrong with you just because you ask for help. I personally have suffered from depression and sought treatment, now I feel so much better about life. Believe me,I was in very deep depression, one of the worst cases,so I can truly sympathize. There are so many mild anti-depressants to help until you can learn how to on your own,and you will! Good Luck!!!

I suffer from depression from time to time. Make sure you are getting plenty of exercise, stay in touch with your friends, take a class, go to church if you are inclined, do something you love, get a puppy or a kitten, volunteer to help other folks, read a joke book and laugh out loud, trick your mind into being happy, smile whether you feel like it or not, say "stop" when negative thoughts come to your mind. These things worked for me and still do. Good luck.

what kind of depression is it?? situational, seasonal, clinical, etc. get an evaluation/assessment so you know what you're dealing with. you may require short or long-term meds, depending upon the type of depression you have. i don't suggest getting your primary care doc to rx meds...they usually are not well versed in mental health issues, many of them are pill pushers because they get kick-backs from the drug companies and many of them just are not too empathetic. they tend to think you can just change the way you're thinking, or take a brisk walk, and get over it. whereas a mental health counselor, psychologist, psychiatrist deals with these issues day-in, day-out. good luck with this.

depression can be so debilitating. seeing your doctor, therapy, and medication are good options.
things you can do on your own are: getting outside & taking a walk, talking with a friend/family, getting enough sleep, eating right, volunteering, mediation, yoga.
3 in 10 Americans are now suffering from depression. 7 in 10 will/have had depression during their life time.
things WILL get getter. good luck

A 'Chemical Imbalance' is a mineral imbalance, which is a 'Mineral Deficiency'.
Potassium is an excellent anti-depressant.
Potassium is a mineral that works with sodium for proper electrolyte balance and contributes to heart muscle health, changes glycogen to glucose, and promotes healing. Potassium can also be used to treat stress, diabetes, hypertension, hypoglycemia, water balance and distribution, muscle & nerve cell function, kidney and adrenal function.
--------------
Minerals:
Electrolytes are ionized salts (minerals) found in body fluids and the blood stream. Electrolytes are the sparks, which fire and fuel the neurotransmitters that enable us to think and process information. Minerals create a healthy environment in which the body, using vitamins, proteins, carbohydrates and fats, can grow, function and heal itself.
*
Calcium is needed for your nerves to fire, for your brain to function, and for your muscles to contract. The messages are carried by calcium atoms just like messages on a telephone line are carried by calcium atoms just like messages on a telephone line are carried by electrons.
*
Magnesium functions in nerve transmission of intelligence and communication between the mind and the body. Magnesium is required for the active transport of ions like potassium and calcium across cell membranes. Through its role in ion transport systems, magnesium affects the conduction of nerve impulses, muscle contraction, and the normal rhythm of the heart.

Iodine deficiency is now accepted as the most common cause of preventable brain damage in the world. School children in iodine deficient areas show poorer school performance, lower IQ, and a higher incidence of learning disabilities than matched groups from iodine-sufficient areas.
-----------------
The best sources of minerals:
This is why any successful health-building program will include fresh, raw, organically grown fruit and vegetable juices. These foods contain the colloidal and crystalline form of minerals that have been through the microorganism and photosynthesis charging process. Also, Sea vegetables (sea weed) such as dulse, kelp, arame, hijiki, kombu, nori, alaria, etc. are a superior source of abundant minerals. All of the topsoil that was eroded from the land, ended up in the oceans. If you eat plants that grow in the ocean, then you can obtain these plant-derived minerals in a biologically utilizable form.
Sprouted seeds, especially alfalfa seeds, provide an abundance of minerals. The alfalfa plant has deep roots that reach up to 90 feet into the ground and pull in many rare trace elements. Raw spinach has an exceptional amount of minerals. All root vegetables have many minerals. Black-strap molasses can be used to add plant-based minerals that were removed during the refining of sugar cane or sugar beets. Another source of plant derived minerals is available from an area known as Emery County, Utah. Supposedly, a glacier or other cause of earth movement buried a large quantity of vegetative matter, which may have been a dense growth, or a washed-in bog of numerous plants, which is believed to have accumulated over a 600 year period. This material now exists as humic shale. On average, the humic shale is a 30 feet thick layer of prehistoric plant derivatives that was or still is under great pressure from the earth. All of the moisture has been compressed out of the humus. By submerging in pure, cold water, more than 70 plant minerals are leached from this humic shale. The mineral water is taken as a mineral supplement.

Take a good Multi-Vitamin and Mineral supplement, plus Omega 3 oils. All proven to enhance mental acuity and improve your feeling of well-being.

as a doctor i know depression is not a big illness it can be cured.now when a person suffers from it it is necessary to make him calm and cool...we use antidepressant drugs .
we advise him and consul him to take rest properly ...do some bit of excercise...and make him sleep so that his brain must not release more hormones that may cause him to be tensed.
