sounds like a urinary tract infection...get him to the vet asap...it can be deadly if there are enough crystals built up in his urine...they block the urethra, and urine can't pass. or, kitty might've gotten into some anti-freeze...it will also make the kidneys produce crystals...this is a worse case scenario than a unrinary tract infection though. uti's are more common in male cats.

Your cat may have an injury where it keeps licling. Possibly a bite from another cat, dog, or whatever. The other possibility is fleas, or a tick or something. I would check for a wound first (Tenderness, and a hole or scratch which is infected, swelling and the area will be hot) or fleas (Little brown insects which bite, and itch like mad. You can see little brown or black specks all through the fur. THis may be blea feces, or the fleas themselves. Check where the cat licks, under the legs, the base of the tail, under the chin, and along the back, behind the neck). If either of these things are the problem, take the necessary steps to fix it. Advantage for dogs can be safely used on cats, so long as the dosage is cut back to that of the cats size and weight. If a wound, then to the vets office for anticiotics, and lancing to drain the wound. Hope this helps.

If your cat is losing appetite and looks moody, perhaps you consult the vet.But licking itself seems normal.

If it seems excessive then he may be trying to tell you something. He could be ill. Check in with your vet.
