Well since not all men are straight nor all women are straight, we need to figure in how many gay guys won't be taking one wife, and how many gay women won't be taking a husband. Then we also to take in to consideration that there are some of both the sexes that refuse to marry. When you can put all these factors into your question, then you will be surprised at the answer.

In places where multiple wives is allowed, adultry is punished by death. So soon the balance of men:woman ratio is restored.
The single men get laid once and they get caught and are killed

Well, you could also just push for multiple husbands, too, if you want to equalize it some.
