Aren't they supposed to be smooth and suave?

Yeah but he's less likely to be a "player" in the typical sense of someone who seeks to have multiple partners. A guy is wrong for having more than one girl at a time, but I think it would be worse on his part if he set out to do that. With a "shy guy" who's a player, the most likely scenario is that many girls make moves on him since he's shy and not likely to. Therefore he is only partly to blame...never-the-less, still to blame.

I think a player is defined by how many girls he has. Although if he is shy, it seems hard to see how he can be smooth and suave enough to get those girls

I think extroverts are sometimes very shy people in the following way: they can "act out" and be a character or an entertainer around large groups of people or total strangers, but they have a hard time having real conversations and being intimate and genuine one on one with people who know them a little better. Maybe in this way, you can say some of them are really shy, behind the facade.

Personally, I think that being a player is an act. But being shy is a quality that you are born with. So, yes. I guy who is a player can be shy.

Depends on whether you consider "playa" to be a personality type or a measurement of how much *** a guy lands (to be nice and crass about it). Shy guys can still meet women, even if sometimes that means the woman takes a bit more initiative than is traditional.

well, is he really a player or someone that pretends to be a player? That could be the difference.....yes they are supposed to be smooth...usually, they are really just jerks...good luck and do yourself a favor...stay away from anyone who says he is a player....

Sometimes we think being shy means being "good" that's why they attract a lot of girls...Shy people do not speak up so they have no power to say no...Maybe, because they are shy they cannot say no to a girl..or maybe, it's just a strategy for a man to pretend he is shy to get girls...

being personable and being a flirt does not make you a player in the sleep around sense ,,,,he could be shy in 1 on 1 contacts but be more open in public

Need more info. If the guy is getting alot of action, he isn't really shy, just acting shy.
