What do you think this says for the SPP.gov plan to give 'readable' decals for fast border passage to 'trusted trade partners'?

http://www.douglasdispatch.com/articles/2006/12/02/news/news1.txt

I think it is an unacceptable hole in our security and border control. I think Congress should require the administration to stop the SPP and bring it to a vote.

What do you think?

Cliff, I wouldn't fight legalization of small amounts of marijuana, but stronger penalties against large amounts. However, this post is about the border security issue, and Bush's plan to give 'scan read stickers' to put on vehicles of 'trusted trade partners' so they could go through fast pass lanes and not even be subject to border security. He wants expansion of this fast pass program and other disregard of border issues in the name of 'speeding free trade'.

I think that:

1) This is a tiny amount of marijuana. There are other busts that range into the 20-ton range so this one is hardly of notice.

2) The entire idea of marijuana prohibition was nonsensical and unenforceable in the first place. That is why Reefer Madness came about. The head of the Federal Bureau of Narcotics knew that the law was unenforceable in 1937 so he figured that the only way to control it would be a stupendous and ridiculous propaganda campaign.

I recommend that anyone interested in the subject read the following items:

I think that ALL trade with Mexico should take place through one single port of entry....maybe it'd be more of a hassle, but it'd serve to provide better oversight, too. Maybe, doing something like that would also encourage them to diversify their trade dollars and do business with other countries in the world BESIDES the United States. Of course, I'm for the completion of the US/Mexico border fence, too.

Mexico has problems, and until the border's properly enforced, their problems will continue to be our problems. The merit of the border fence is that it will prevent illegal crossing, and having one port of entry from Mexico will make it so commerce is regulated too. Regulating interstate commerce is a bona-fide legitimate function, since it's already evident that there's a crime problem, they could make it so everything had to go to one place and make sure that the laws are upheld.

Im so glad you posted this because I think it's important to show that while it is true that drugs are coming into the country through the Mexican border, it is important to point out that they are not bringing here to sell to other illegals, that being said, guess who's buying it?!

Many are under the illusion that vehicles are inspected and people checked. Most of the time you can just drive across without any hassle. I have have never been challenged going either direction. Could have smuggled in half of Brazil had I wanted to.

i think bush should be impeached for not sealing our borders within hours of 9/11...none of this "stuff" he & congress are proposing or putting into action is helping to secure our country...just ensuring their financial security...woe be to middle-class Americans!
