If you want a small curl at the ends, aka flairing, ask that the hair stylist cut your hair with a razor. This will cut down on the harsh lines caused by blunt cuts. A suggestion is buy a hairdryed with an infusor piece. This will allow you to scrunch your hair while drying. Do not overstyle your hair when trying to achieve a curl. Remember that hair styling starts when the hair is 80% dry, you can note this whenever the hair looks dry but feels damp. That's the ideal time to begin scrunching for curls. If you run into frizz and want glistening curls? Wash hair with warm water, condition hair and rinse with cold water--this seals the hair cuticle. Blow dry your hair, preferably with cold air, until it's 80% dry, then scrunch or use curlers. **Don't follow into the belief you can "train your hair to curl". You cannot alter genetics by doing certains cuts and styles to your hair--only damage the hair. Chemical permanents can give you curl if you want it always but if you want your hair to curl only sometimes, use the above method.

Layered cuts encourage curling, but your hair must be at least wavy for that. Nothing can make pencil-straight hair curl by itself.

No, unless you comb it in a certain direction after a wash every time, then it will naturally curl that specific way.
