Of course it is. When you go into any debate (and this is going to be a good debate) you want to have as much info as possible. You show them with their own words how your religion is the true religion.

Not necessarily, but it definitely helps. If you don't, though, you better have good evidence for your point of view.
For example, I am an atheist. I see much evidence that gods are man-made. You can look at the history of religions to show this to be true. However, I don't know all the details of all religions. Still, I can argue my point of view because of the evidence.
Of course, when arguing with religious people, I do listen to their arguments and respond in kind. I can't just spew propaganda and expect it to apply to whatever it was the other person said.
And if the other person makes some interesting point, I may go research what they said later. And I might revise my own views based on their insight, though it usually takes quite a bit to do because my own views are well-developed and honed with many such discussions.

i think it is only right that you know what you are talking about before you make any comment about anyone else's faith or beliefs
actually this is why most atheists have a say about Christianity..... because most were once Christians who seem to have good knowledge about it
it would be hypocritical to do otherwise
i would not comment on a Hindu question because i dont know enough to comment ... so i stay quiet , as everyone else should unless they have sufficient knowledge to answer ( for or against )
Jesus freak .... this is what i am talking about .... you speak yet dont know that a Buddhist would not try to convert

Quite obviously not, as so MANY people do just that.
But, like any other unsolicited opinion, such comments are worth exactly what I pay for them.
Nada. Zilch. Not one red cent.
As for me, well, I don't tell people that their faith is misplaced.
Nro do I tell them that my religion is the only "right" one.

What little I do know about another religion is to much. It's just enough to know that I would not have anything or any part of it. I do know that the Bible is the Word of God and Jesus Christ is the Son of God and He was sent here to save me from my sins.

Close minded a bit? I think so! How dare you, and any of your kind who try to tell anyone how they should live their life. You have proved that religion is folly, all religion. You claim tolerance and the uplifting of people, yet all the while, you turn away differences in people and try to change people to your misguided viewpoints. Let people live their lives for a change. I think your question is idiotic and just proves that religion itself is misguided.

Knowing about another person's religion can be useful. It helps you to see where they are coming from, religiously and spiritually speaking. It allows you to effectively counter their beliefs with your own. Just be sure to do it in a winsome fashion.

Knowledge is a good thing, it gives you power of the subject. Ego is a good subject to know about, especially when it comes to telling someone else they are wrong and you are right.

well, it's helpful to know where their coming from. i mean, if a Buddist who knew nothing about Christianity tried to make me Buddist, i'd be like
"man, you are lost. Jesus can help you"
hava nice day!
