There has also been a trend of large stores (airlines, banks etc) to use loyalty programs to keep and increase their customer base.
And probably the biggest trend in retail would have to be the internet.

shopping centres in England have been a major change in retail in the last 20 years and with more diverse people living here we need more goods and things relating to this more religious foods IE halal and kosha foods have been introduced and more people or health conscious and vegan and vegetarians are on the increase this has meant that more shops and wholesaler have had to change the way they do business and don't forget about Internet shopping and the effects this had had on society hope this helps

How about outsourcing labor to other countries. I think that's a good one.
