My girlfriend never wears make-up, hardly wears jewelry or does anything with her hair. Whenever I mention something about liking it when she is more girly (rarely, I don't want to pester her) she says that she doesn't really know how.

Are there ways that she can learn? She has few close female friends, and I think she's embarrassed to ask them about "things she should already know." Likewise with her mom and older sister.

Or, should I just continue to be happy with what I have and look forward to the special occasions when she does "get girly" (we're currently in a long-distance relationship, so that's not very often)?

p.s. I am 24 and she is 23.

Just to clarify, by:
"Whenever I mention something about liking it when she is more girly (rarely, I don't want to pester her) she says that she doesn't really know how."

I mean that, whenever she is looking especially good, I make sure to compliment her. Not that I tell her that I wish she was more girly when we're just lounging around in jeans and t-shirts.

You don't realize just how lucky you are to have found someone who is exceptional.

No, you are not wrong to want that!!!
Do not tell her about the way she dresses, every time she looks girly compliment her eg. you look really nice in skirts I can imagine how gorgeous you would look in a strapless dress. Then casually continue talking about other things.
Give hera gift certificate to a spa and buy an outfit for her to put on after and also carry her to dinner that same day.
Send her anonymous fashion and makeup magazines in the mail.
Or in a worse case sign her up on "what not to wear" or watch the program together (it's on TLC) a few times, it really works just try watching it whenever you can.

woahh that became lengthy. how lengthy did that take to form up? i study it besides and to be honest i imagine you ought to get your girlfriend to work out a doctor and note if shes ok. she would no longer like it or would no longer even pick to bypass yet its for the perfect, purely to work out whats incorrect. Has she been ill or ill at the moment? shes probable dealing with a problematical time i imagine purely provide her some area and enable her come round. enable her imagine issues by, what she needs to do, and so on. shes of direction perplexed and perchance lower than pressure...dont chop up such as her in case you truly love eachother you adult men will attempt to artwork it out mutually. wish it is going properly and strong luck contained in the destiny :-)

Just be with happy with who she is. If you've been together that long then obviously the relationship is based on more than looks. Maybe she feels uncomfortable wearing make up. Some women have a natural beauty that doesn't need to be embellished, maybe she's one of those types of women.

No its not 'wrong' for you to want her to dress up.

But the fact is that u are with her for the person that she is. She should try to understand and if she wants to keep you in the long term then she really ought to try n make u happy.

But u can't change people. If her non-feminine appearance means that much to you, unfortunatly I would suggest u might think about getting urself a new gf. Bcuz if she doesnt want to change her ways then u will probably find other girls attractive in the long term (naturally) and it wouldnt be good to cheat on her.

Think about it.........

u started loving her the way she is. Then whats the point to force to change? But if she wants it by herself then its good. She may hire some imagemaker. It costs, but if its just for a few days its not too costly. But the specialist will teach her the basics

I think a purchase of a "day at the spa pass" might be the ticket. Twice a yr my boyfriend buys me one. It usually includes a hair cut or style, facial, body massage, pedicure and manicure. You could include a package that will teach her how to put makeup on, then have a pair of nylons, shoes and a dress ready for her ,whisk her off for a nice meal and show.Us girls love to be shown off! And If it's really the fact that she didn't know how, then she'll begin to do a little bit on her own. But id after all this is said and done, and she still doesn't care to get too girlie...then just be happy for her. Good luck

I don't believe it's wrong. I am just like here! i'm 18 and have never had a female role model to show me anything. Just this year (all thanks to a jack a** boyfriend) i have started to becoming more 'feminine'. You'll be amazed at the self confident you gain and you begin to find a part of you inside that you never realised.

She would just be scared because she has never reli done any of that before. Help her out, she'll feel better about herself and she'll look even nicer for you so it's a +ive on both sides.

She just needs some help and a little re assurance.

When you took her on, didn't you notice that she didn't use make up? Some guys like those natural beauties. If she's not super feminine, she probably doesn't have it in her after 5 years, I'm not sure she would change lifelong habits. You could give her a day of beauty as a gift where a make up artist will see her (tart her up) and cut her hair/ give her a makeover and teach her how to do it.

u should love her for what she is not for how she looks like....but since u're a man I'll let u know that there are some magazines that show how u how to use make-up, as for the hair there are beauty shops and the clothes...well she can go shopping with her friends and they would tell her what to buy without making her feel uncomfortable(trust me)

this is not such a bad thing. girls like this are usually not as high maintenence, and that can keep a lot of cash in your wallet. its always nice though when she does "get girly" because it makes you feel more manly (im not saying she should compromise her equality) but men want to make their woman feel like a woman (and no thats not a bad thing) so that she can make her man feel like a man.
