not that I believe in aliens, but my guess would be that the radiation has to do with the nuclear devices being used to power their super-duper spaceships :)

Because the aliens probably used atomic energy to power the space ship and radiation would be a bye product

There is usually radiation at the abduction site because they use some sort of mater-anti-mater propulsion system for the space ships.
If they do try to take you firmly tell them NO! that usually works.
