Not only are you not supposed to tip the owner, it is considered bad manners on the owners behalf if they except your tip.

Etiquette is just good manners and kindness. It is customary to tip a hairdresser whether they own the salon or not. This is a way to show appreciation for a job well done in any line of work, but services render should always be tipped in my opinion. when some one is kind to you you should always show appreciation in some form or another whether it is a tip or a smile or simply a heartfelt thank you.

I would prefer to tip the he owner's assistants/workers than they owner but yes its good to tip the owner. The size of the tip i think depends on the kind of service you're given

I always have a hairdresser visit my house cos i cant afford to visit a salon, if i had 2 visit a salon i wdnt tip!
