I think your wife is more right than you are. My understanding is there are three main places alcohol is absorbed: The toungue, the stomach, and the digestive system.
Most alcohol is absorbed through the stomach lining or in the digestive tract. So if you eat food before or while drinking, it slows the absorbtion rate through the stomach making, which is why people are encouraged to eat before they drink.
So, using the watered down wine, the alcohol absorbed by the tongue or stomach would be about the same or less.

SCAAAAAARRRRy! why waste the taste with water? Drink less red (full-on) and more water when you're done with the red. Have a red, then a h20 repeat, or full red red red, red one last led., gutful of qater, cou[le of [anadol, then BED!!!
