It's an acronym for "laugh out loud", in response to something funny someone has typed. It's internet slang. You may also see ROTFLOL (rolling on the floor laughing out loud) or LMAO (laughing my @$$ off). Other things you may see that have different meanings include WTF? (What the f___?) out of amazement or shock and IMHO (in my humble opinion).

I had to ask this question a couple of months ago because I didn't know, either. Laughing Out Loud you have already been told. One of my respondents actually did say that they wondered why people where signing Lots of Love! It appears to come from the terrible texting on phones, so you can expect things like 4U. Some of them are reasonably easy to work out once you know what you are looking for. Others you have to have some advice on! I can understand the abbreviations being used in texting (although I don't like them and always use 'long-hand), but when using a keyboard, it is easy to type what you really mean to say!

LOL stands for laugh out loud..they are commonly used phrases to make talking online more fun and also interesting..don't worry...you are not yet at the rate of slang like some people...this is one example of a reply i got...c ya gtg catch ya later wtf i guess im staying 999...Translation: See you later got to go catch you later what the **** i guess i am going to stay on line my parents are coming...

It means "laugh out loud." We say it on the computer whenever anything is amusing. It is pronounced "L-O-L." each letter is said individually.
