I collected pine cones one year. Did not have a reason to do this, but did. I brought home two big bags, put them aside. I figured I would eventually do something with them. Finally, couple of years later I brought them out just to look at them. They had dried out by this point and were huge, the long ones. I came up with the idea to decorate them and use them as tree ornaments.
I hot clue on this gold thread on the top, paint the pine cones gold, then glue on all kinds of mini decorations. The first ones I made were very simple. A small bow, that I glued on in front of the gold thread, found a small angel, glued that on top of the bow. Then I got creative. I made these small wreaths, and glued those on the bows. Found some mini bells and tiny ornaments and glued those on each bow.
You can get as creative as you like. Whatever you can find that will look nice. You can paint batches of gold or silver or even white if you like. Find what matches and put them together. The tree looks amazing with the decorated pine cones. They shine with the tree lights.
I find most of my decorations at the dollar store, especially this time of year. And plan my creations for next year. I also give these as gifts and people love them. A way to remember me. Have fun with this, if you are lucky to come across pine cones, you can do all kinds of beautiful stuff. And since they last, you can pass them down to your children. Merry X-mas.

you can make ornaments..very simple and cheap. Go to Walmart or K-mart. Buy the Styrofoam Balls. they come in all different sizes. If you have old shirts or jeans or buy some new faric. cut into smal pieces take a plastic butter knife and press edges into the styrofoam ball. then take some ribbon and press it into the top (which ever side you want) and hang on the tree. you can do all the same fabric on one ball or several different types.
As a kid I made these with my grandmother. It was a lot of fun and I still have some of them.
Good luck and have fun

My mother makes these cool ornaments. She goes to the craft store and gets clear glass (cylindrical type) ornaments and takes crafting paint (several different colors) and pours it into the ornament, then swishes it around until it is well coated and turns them upside down in their plastic packaging and waits. This serves the dual purpose of both letting them dry out and siphoning out the excess paint. Then you simply put the caps (should be included) back on and presto, awesome ornament. Mixing regular paint with metallic paint can garner some very cool results, as well as adding ribbons instead of your traditonal little metal hook for hanging. Good luck, and have fun!

When they were young my kids liked making christmas ornaments with cookies. You roll and cut the various shapes then press a knotted string into the dough (You can also just make a hole in the top of the cookie and put a colored ribbon through when cooled). After the cookies are cooked and cooled you make a glaze with powdered sugar, milk and food coloring to paint them.

Dry some slices of fruit: apple, orange, kiwi, quince, etc. in the oven on very low temperature. Probably overnight. Glue on a ribbon loop to each slice and hang.
Glue ribbon loops onto pinecones.
Cover styrofoam balls with old parts of costume jewellery.

My whole tree is done in homemade decorations. I went to the craft store and got homespun fabric (torn in long strips), raffia, and jute twine and tied bows with them. They i went out and collected pine cones and used jute tied around the top to hang them. My finishing touch was gingerbread cutouts, just make gingerbread dough and use cookie cutters to cut out whatever shapes you want. Once the shapes get dry, you can paint and decorate them. My tree looks really nice and old fashioned, everyone that sees it loves it.

lmao - tampon crafts is hilarious!!!
BUT, if you'd like some other ideas, you could go to a craft store and buy cross stitch ornaments. They are easy to make and don't take a lot of time. They are beautiful too!
Have a look around at craft stores... they have all kinds of neat ideas for ornaments. One year I made a bunch of cross stitch ornaments and gave them to people on their gifts. They were very well received because I took the time to make them myself and they are really nice.
Best of luck to you!
