I agree with you, but there is a war already of sorts in the USA, it's a war of social and economical proportions.
A war of words (and actions) to divide the American people.
And sadly it is a losing situation, as is the war in Iraq.

The fact is.... they did it to us once and they can easily do it again.
What they cannot do is get the type of headlines they achieve with so little expenditure of funds in Iraq. Iraq is by far the easier target and the supply of "human bombs" is limitless. Grab any 5-year old child off the street and then blackmail the parents into an outrageous act to get the child back.
They have somehow begun to convince the world that it is our fault that the Shiite and Sunni are blowing themselves to bits. Much of the funding they receive from Iran, Syria, Egypt, and possibly supposedly neutral states such as Saudi Arabia and beyond is easily funneled in here by a million different routes.
But it would not be a "War", just as it is not truly a "war" here either. It is a deadly game of cat-and-mouse sometimes. When we go in after a known stronghold, we get bleeding heart journalists writing their stories from the relative safety of the Embassy Lounge. When we don't go after the strongholds, the same reporters order another drink and fire off another email. Each one hoping that the story they write while knocking back another Guiness is the 'magic story' that gets them out of here.
Everyone has an agenda, and it is often self-preservation....
As long as we're here we are not only fighting the spread of this terroism but we are showing the world we will not abandon our allies here in Iraq.
Those allies, believe it or not, are the Iraqi people themselves.
We left Vietnam and more people died in the month we left than the entire time the Vietnam war was fought. within the next year, more people had been killed than Vietnam lost on both sides since 1952.
History; you don't have to know it to watch it happen all over again.

Alright, think about this...
Since the November election the tide has turned toward the more Liberal way of thinking. We should pull out of Iraq and it looks like that very well may occur, what do you see happening. They have less to fear and we might as well put out the welcome mat. They think they own us now.
Irans President has become more aggressive to getting involved in Iraq. Syria (who has been relatively quiet for a period of time) has stepped up their support for terrorism and rhetoric. The Prime Minister and President of Iraq are both starting to lean toward the Iranians and the Syrians for support and turning away from the United States.
Hezbollah wants to overthrow the Democratic Lebanese Government.
The bombings in the Palestinian region and Israel have picked up again. Al-Queda has renewed their campaign to threaten US intersts publicly.
Russia is now publicly working to undermine the US.
So yes, I would say that as bad as it is right now by weakening the stand of our President and by annoucing to the world that we are going to begin withdrawing our troops and that we are bowing to the pressure of the insurgency we have put ourselves in a much more vulnerable position.
I don't know if they will bring the War to our soil but I certainly feel we made it much more likely.
With people like MarkB above making the comments that he did why shouldn't they come here and attack. When you have (presumably) Americans saying it is justified what is there to stop you.... Thanks Mark... You idiot.

Terrorists can travel by plane, as 9-11 proved. I think some of these arguments for the Iraq war are afterthoughts; cooked up by the public relations arm of the Bush administration, and tested for believability by focus groups.
I'm sure the Iraqis appreciate the argument that we turned their country into a killing field for terrorists, so we didn't have to defend on our own land.

What was said is if you don't fight terrorism on their soil they will fight it on our soil.
However remember that you should also have figured out that is was Ben Ladin no Saddam who was responible for 9/11. Ben Ladin himself has laid claim to that.
Yes I believe there will be retaliation for Iraq. Now we don't only have to worry about the Ben Ladin's of the world we will also have to worry about the ones who will retaliate against the Iraq war too.

Just stopped in to echo the words Proud wrote....he sums it up pretty well.
We cannot sit back and allow 1 side to viciously attack and murder innocent people of another side. In fact, the Iraqi people know what the stakes are, and they know who's gonna fight on thier behalf.
The Allies.
