They're sold in plenty of bookshops and websites. But in response to another question, several people said one must be given a tarot deck as a gift, not buy it for oneself. But no reasons were given.

I'm not a tarot reader, just curious.

Actually no, the only way to get a good deck is to pick it yourself. You have to find a deck with symbolism that "speaks to you"...someone else could buy you a very nice deck, but if your subconscious can't read it, it wont do you much good.

I am a professional psychic and always have at least 4 different decks on the go at any one time. When a deck get’s a bit too well worn I buy a new deck (often from eBay). I prefer to work with as new a deck of cards as possible so the shuffle and deal smoothly and quickly. I usually sell my old decks on eBay too. Here’s a live RSS feed for Tarot Decks on eBay at the moment. http://feeds.feedburner.com//TarotDeck

You can use this four minute video as a brief meditation on the tarot that, repeatedly viewed, will help you learn how to read tarot cards psychically. http://www.psychic-junkie.com/tarotvision.html

The real power isn't in the cards, it's in you. You can buy a deck but it is less connected to you then if you are given one; not too sure how this works, it's a Cosmos thing.

If you make your own deck it will be even more powerful then one that is given to you. When you make it your energy is part of it's spirit and the symbols come directly from you.. My teacher made me make mine from scratch, card stock and all, and they work great, better then the one's i bought, better then the ones my Lady gave me.

My Teacher says that a true master doesn't need cards. He did a Tarot Reading for me by just looking around, it was awesome. They are just tools to help you the real power is in you.

As someone else already said, using Tarot cards is simply a tool to tune into your own inner wisdom, guidance system. It's similar to using Runes, crystals, prayer/meditation or just listening within.

Someone choosing to tune in using an 'outer' tool such as the tarot would need to feel a connection to the deck in question. For those willing to wait for the Universe to 'provide' a deck via a gift, fine. For those who want to get their own, also fine.

Free will choice is the key. The old rules are breaking down fast... to the necessity to really be in tune with our own inner, divine guidance. That's all we each truly have in this time when our Soul Selves are choosing to create integrated merger with our human selves whilst we inhabit our 3-D bodies.

No tool, church or anything else can take the place of developing a deep trust and 'faith' in one's own inner knowingness. Tools and churches and others guiding are great, but they all must lead to each Human Angel taking responsibility for their own self awareness and inner knowingness.

Why??? Because that's the only way 'heaven'... knowing one's own Soul Self as All That Is... will be made to manifest and integrate here on Earth... within our human bodies and collective human lives....where our Soul Self chooses to Play. ;-)

Great question!

there is absolutely no reason you shouldn't buy your own deck. as a matter of fact i prefer you buy your own deck. you need to purchase the deck that you connect with, it's a very personal choice and one best made on your own. you will probably own many decks as you move further along your path, i have a personal deck, a client deck, a specialty deck (consulted on specific matters) and a few just because decks. do not let other peoples superstition stop you from following your own path.

It's the beleif that it has purer energy if it wasn't purchased but a gift, and that it arrives to you in positive energy. However, there can be plenty of people with few magickal friends or want to get better and practice.

My advice is buy your own deck withan appropiate black cloth, and if you're worried do a cleansing ritual on the cards to rid them of any negative energy it got from being purchased.

This is not true. I brought my cards and they work great for me. Everyone has their superstition regarding these cards also on how to clean them propperly. Tarots are highly personal and you should deal with them as best you can and by your gut instinct. If you want to learn anythign or have questions you can email me privatly!

That's rubbish. It's better if you buy your own because you know which one you feel intuitively drawn to, and tarot is all about intuition.

Anyone can buy a tarot deck for themselves. It doesn't have to be given as a gift. I wouldn't buy one now tho because they aren't of God. Since rededicating my life to Him, I am getting rid of things like that.
