I'm looking to fly my mother back home sometime next year (from Australia to Ireland and return) as she's had a shocking 2006 thanks to the illness & death of my father.

For such a long trip, I want to make sure she's comfortable and has a great experience both in terms of quality & service. Can anyone recommend a particular airline's first or business class? Any extra details very appreciated.

Great for Continental... too bad to experience that, the asker's mother would have to connect in the US. And it's still only business (J) class.

I think this is more of a question of convenience... do you want your mother to go through the hassle of connecting out of the way and the extra time that entails, or do you want to get her there ASAP, being as comfortable as possible.

I ask, because the two best airlines in F are Cathay Pacific (CX) and Singapore (SQ). Unfortunately, she would have to connect in HKG or SIN (respectively), and those airports are somewhat out of the way.

BA will take approx. 25 hours each way, connecting twice (in SIN and FRA). And BA's F service is nothing to sneeze at.

But you're in luck... for a few more minutes of travel time, she can fly Singapore. The advantage of the F ticket isn't just on the plane, but also she will have access to their super-lux lounge in SIN where she can wait for her next flight.

I personally would take SQ over BA hands down.

These days most of the airlines have upgraded their business and first class to the 'Next generation' seats. These are the comfy seats that in business go almost all the way flat - and in 1st class go 100% flat for sleeping. They have big and excellent TV with on-demand movies - privacy, etc.

I know that BA and Virgin have these seats and they are great (can't go wrong with BA). I assume Quantas has them too - but not sure. Since the flight requires a layover somewhere - you may also consider an Asian AL like Singapore AL or Malaysia AL if the routing is not too long - since these 2 are the best airlines in the world - for service and comfort. Good luck!

It quite relies upon on the airline yet what you oftentimes get is served first so yours is warm besides the fact that if it quite is meant to be and you moreover mght get a decision if there's a decision going. inspite of the undeniable fact that it quite is often the comparable slop that they serve all and sundry else as a results of fact there is constrained area on the airplane. in case you need to purely be useful you get a competent meal you may ask for a halal, kosher, salt loose, or diabetic meal once you're reserving your flight. by soliciting for a particular meal it will be of your decision even interior of the cheap seats, properly it relatively is that in case you will locate an airline which will feed the cheap seats. the single my business organisation needs me to fly regionally does not feed you and you may carry your very own. Me I consistently carry a foot long sub and consume it on the airplane. BTW its no longer worth going top type type except you're going over the sea or an somewhat long flight on account which you would be paying plenty extra for slightly extra area. Its worth it on the long hauls yet no longer regionally.

According to Conde de Nest Traveler Magazine, 2006, Continental Airlines was voted no. 1 in Business First with their gourmet meals, lots of room and comfort, soft leather seating and lots of leg room.
