Th essence of a good vodka whether it's made from potato, corn or grain is the purity of the vodka. Cheap vodka just tastes like the sting of alcohol, such as bar brands Smirnoff, Absolute. Okay for mixing cocktails or highballs. Grey Goose, Belvedere and other premium brands have been filtered numerous times although the alcohol is the same the sting is lessened and the very subtle flavors of the vodka are revealed. Grey Goose, my fave, has a subtle citrus tinge. I like it with a few ice cubes and a splash of water very refreshing. If you are mixing a vodka with any thing flavored just use a basic bar brand.

Try making a White Russian. One shot of Vodka, one shot of Kahlua and two shots of Milk. YUMMY! As for what makes a good Vodka, sorry but that's a trade secret.

Vodka is made from potatoes. The more times you distill it the better it gets.
