I got an email from a guy who was upset with an answer I gave him on his question. After a while of emailing back and forth I made a comment of his muslim faith ( just to make him mad I don't really hate all muslims I have friends that r muslim ). He called me racist. I thought being racist was about skin colour not religon. Do u agree?

I'm not defending what i said I know it was bad. I was so angry at the things he was saying about my family and I.
I just want to know if ppl believe it's racist if u say something bad about a religion.

I couldn't agree more. I'm with you when I'm answering Muslims questions some get really nasty, they got no sense of humor, they cannot accept any criticism. If you're against their questions they just report you to Papa Yahoo!!!

Considering what's going on in the world right now, and the way Americans have issues with Muslims, I see his point. Most Muslims are arabs, so when you insult them they think you're being racist. Besides, the Jews are a race and they're a religion, I never really understood that.
Here's the thing. When you are in a discussion or argument with someone and you want them to see your point, making a below the belt comment about their religion, race, etc. will do nothing but destroy any credibility you had already built up. Now whoever you are arguing with doesn't care what you have to say b/c they think you're racist. Your point is now completley lost on him. If you want to insult someone you have to be creative about it and insult something that he actually did or said. Making a crack at his religion or race is the easiest thing to do. Look at Michael Richards. He wanted to make the guy feel like crap by calling him a N and all he succeeded in doing was ruining his own career. What he should have done was call the guy an a**hole and tell him to stop acting like a child and shut up.
I hope you see my point.

Racist means you believe peoples traits and characteristics are inherent according to their particular race and that because of that you are some how superior to them. So if you don't believe this you are not a racist, but probalbly better to keep the mouth shut. I know, i've done the same things and I always forget I may be hurting someones feelings. Thats the main thing, I'm not trying to hurt people you know. But since you have not disclosed your exact quote I can't answer the question. When you say "you don't hate all muslims", this is kind of saying there are some muslims you do hate. correct? or just another slip?

I don't understand why everyone gets so upset over this site. I just had an encounter with a woman on here and it was so senseless. I cannot even believe it happened. This is the reason I don't have my email address available. You are not being prejudice, but instead the other guy is acting way over sensitive. I have a terrible habit of being way to blunt and have been told I was arrogant. I am trying now to think of others before I write an answer.

Muslim is not a religion. Most Muslims follow Islam -- that's their religion. I don't know what you said about his "muslim faith" but if it was negative, then it can be construed to be racist towards Muslims.

Interestingly, Mohammed Ali Jinnah the founder of Pakistan said "your race is determined by your religion".These words sparked the bloodiest riots in history.

No, being racist is about everything, not just skin color. It includes religion, cultural beliefs and so forth. Racism has a much broader meaning now than it was originally intended to

racism is not just about skin color. racism means to not accept someone for being different from you in some way such as color, religion, country of origin, even social class.
i'm sure the list can go on.

You are right, "racist" is not the right term. I can think of a couple other terms that would correctly describe you though. However, I am too much of a lady to use that type of language in mixed company...
