When you see the Sistene Chapel in the Vatician..."David" in Florence and the Pieta in St Marks , there is only one candidate........Michelangelo by a mile...pure genius and such beauty.

I think it was the ancient cave dweller who first figured out how to use pigment or a manufactured object to visually represent his world. Everyone that comes after that is just copying the idea.
