OK without going into the morals of pro breeding I am determined to give my best friend the opportunity to be a mom. I chickened out on the last heat as she is a husky and I could only line up a 70kg malamout. I thought this might lead to complications although they were a great looking pair. Was I right?

If the male is considerably larger then the female, it can cause a traumatic pregnancy, ending in C-section..I would consult your own vet with this, as your vet knows your dog and what size she could safely tolerate...the phone call is free.

And why do you want to do this...... "determined to give my best friend the opportunity to be a mom" What ARE you thinking? You should indeed be thinking about the morals of breeding your dog. What will happend to all those puppies? If you are not prepared to keep them all, and give them a forever home, just as you would if they were YOUR children (since this is YOUR best friend), you have no business breeding the dog. 5Million dogs are euthanized in this country because of breeders -- and many of those dogs are purebreds, hon, purebreds!!!! Your mutts will be pretty far down on the list for adoption. You dog will be a much better pet spayed. No, hon, think ahead. Go to your local animal shelter, and see all the really great dogs that have no "forever"homes, who will be euthanized and turned into fertilizer, (yup, fertilizer---rendered)

Please continue to chicken out...spend some time volunteering at your local shelter. See how many dogs, mostly mixed breeds, are euthanized each day. Dogs do not need to be 'parents'. Have a heart & rethink this...even if you find all the pups homes, more than half will most likely be surrendered and euthanized before they ever reach 3 years of age - this is a proven statistic.

a husky/malamute mix would be awesome, cuz you'd get the best of both breeds. am i hearing right? the male is 70 kg, which is 154lbs?? that might not be to large a dog for your female, but to be sure, i'd talk to your vet for the best advice.
