Traditionally, the Christmas tree should be decorated on Christmas Eve and taken out of the house on the 7th of January(after the Old Style Xmas on the 6th!). Depending on the ages of your children(if any), you either do it in secret and surprise them when turning on the lights just when you are ready to sit down for Xmas Eve dinner, or get the whole family involved in decorating it (while still giving mum a hand in the kitchen!). It is so much more fun and excitement than having it lying there for weeks before Xmas. And don't overdo it! Outside decorating?? Maybe not. Or just something really small..Have a very nice and peaceful one, everybody!

Actually it is a matter of preference.
I usually try to start putting mine up the day after Thanksgiving. A lot of people I know, wait until the week before Christmas. I like getting in the spirit so for me, the sooner the better!
If I may offer some advice, it pays to have timers on outside lights. It will help save you immensely on your electric bill. Before I started using them, my bill was over 200.00 higher for the month of December.
Have A Merry Christmas!

Whenever you want to. Our family tradition is to put them up and burn them the first time on Thanksgiving night. However, I have been dragging my behind; the tree is in my living room- still in the box and outside decorations are still in storage. I have gotten a bit lazy, I guess.

We always put our up on Christmas Eve and take them down on Twelfth Night - that's the true tradition (in the English countryside, anyway!).

We always put them up on the second weekend in december. I can remember my parents putting them up on christmas eve when I was very little but it changed to the second weekend when I became old enough to help.
I think that it is entirely up to you when you put them up, but I would not put them up before december - no matter what is happening in Town!
