The Pope is Benedict not Venedict! I am still amazed too but I think he's seeking to bridge religions for the sake of life. Surely not to make Muslims happy or to excuse himself for the anger which a history quote has created among those who wanted to bend its meaning and importance.
As a European, I agree with the Pope in the sense that Turkey shall never join the EU. The Muslims have their own culture, we've got our own. And if someone tries to disapprove this, then think of a European guy going out with Muslim ladies! No way they like this! Islam should have been a very nice religion, but the fanatics that twisted its meaning, made it a spearhead, an excuse for a domination strive.
I was very happy to see the Pope entering the mosque holding the cross. Under a half moon, that was a very nice scene!

Despite the uproar about his philosophical comments Pope Benedict the XVI made several months back, he went to Turkey at the request of the head of the Eastern Orthodox Church, Bartholomew I. His visit will hopefully encourage interfaith dialog and mutual respect and understanding between those of different faiths in that region.

The Pope went to Turkey for three main reasons:

+ A pastoral journey to the Catholic Church in Turkey, with its various ritual expressions (Latin, Armenian Catholic, Syrian Catholic, Chaldean).

+ An ecumenical journey to the Eastern Orthodox Church with a meeting of prayer and dialog with the Patriarch, His Holiness Bartholomew I.

+ A journey of interreligious dialog with Islam, the predominant religion in Turkey.

With love in Christ.

Um, you are looking for a secret purpose in a holy man? What if I asked what an Imam "secret purpose" was when they went on a pilgrimage?

They declared peace, the man made peace which can only lead to war. Why? Because they don't put Jesus first whom is the real peace giver not man. Jesus is the only one that can bring peace.
