I need to know how hard it is and what has to be done to get a visa into the United States. What is the process and how long does it take. How long will the person have to stay and if there is a marriage involved will that make it easier for them to stay here.

You really need to research this for yourself on the net, within the official US government websites.

Each circumstance can be different, because of the country of origin that is involved. Answers is populated by people, like yourself, who aren't able to give wholly credible responses on vague questions like yours. Though you can hope to have remarks posted from others in similar circumstances who can empathize and give you an outline of their own experiences.

Good luck

Well that depends on a lot. First, what country are you from. America doesn't in the slightest way treat each country equal. If you're from Candana, come today, if you're from a rich european country, just do the paper work, if you're from a poorer country it's going to be near impossible unless you already have money and ties to your country.

Some of the ways that people from poorer countries do enter though (legally), is if they are college students, they sign up for camping/summer work programs in the US, such as Camp Counselor USA, Camp America, and Work America. If you have a special skill, you could get employed here and have the american company apply for a visa for you (but unless you are the best, this probably won't happen). Or you can try to marry an American, that's always the best because it's the fastest most permenent way to get here.

There are no simple ways to do, and should you do it illegally, it won't be the America you're hoping for, it will a life of abuse that will lock you in a certain part of our society. But should you get here legally, things will get better.

It seems to me the easiest way is marriage. I don't know of any other ways, really, unless you have a whole crap-load of money or a really in-high-demand trade.

If you DO marry in, it takes at least 2 years from there to become an official citizen. There's a whole ton of paperwork and money involved over that 2-year span. In the beginning you'll have to have a lot of INS appointments and each one will cost you between $100 and $500 in paperwork, which can pile up if you're poor. They pretty much leave you alone after all that junk, and you're good to stay.

I'm a Canadian on a TN work visa. I've been renewing my visa for about 6 years now. I first worked in the US under a student J-1 visa. It all depends where you're coming from etc. Since I am canadian, I can't apply for the green card lottery. However, I can get myself through an employer onto a H1b visa that gives me dual intent to work and apply for a green card(receive one in three years).
