my dad gave me this shaver since i just started getting facial hair, and it kinda hurts when you shave w/ it...it almost feels like it's sometimes pulling the hair out of your face...is it possible that this shaver could rip out the roots of my hair so that i will never get facial hair again? or have it be very sparse facial hair? because i'd like to grow a beard in the future...

Get an electric pre-shave (Edge makes one); it's like after shave, but you put it on before shaving to condition the skin and soften the hair.
Since you just stared getting facial hair, I'm assuming that it can be pretty sparse to start with. The shaver could be scratching you slightly and that's what you're feeling.
If a facial hair is ripped out by the root, that doesn't mean that it won't grow back, it'll just grow back slower. Ask any woman who waxes her eyebrows or upper lip. We're trying to make it not come back and we can't.

Yes, it's very possible the shaver is ripping out hairs/whiskers. This usually happens when the shaver is of poor quality or when the blades are dull.
If it is a good shaver then go to a store and purchase new blades for it.
Also, depending on what it looks like, it is possible the blades do not match up correctly and that can pull hairs.

If the hair is getting ripped out very roughly it is possible to permantly damage the folicle and a new hair won't grow. It would be best to switch to a common razor until you get new blades or a new shaver altogether.

Good luck!
