Marriage is a highly recommended deed. Allah says, "Marry the spouseless among you...if they are poor, God will enrich them of His bounty."(Qur'an 24:32) The first word of this verse begins with "ankihu" (Marry!) which is an imperative form of the word nikah. According to the principles of Islamic jurisprudence, any communication in imperative form from God can have two levels of meaning: either it is an obligatory command or a very high recommendation. And therefore we see that in Islam celibacy is not considered as a virtue. Based on this verse we find the Prophet saying that, "Whoever refrains from marriage because of fear of poverty, he has indeed thought badly of God." (Wasa'ilu 'sh-Shi'ah, vol. 14, p. 24) In another verse Allah says, "... Then marry such women as seem good to you two, three or four. But if you fear that you will not do justice between your wives, then marry only one... "(4:3)

Sex was made for a man and a woman to reproduce offspring.

There is no purpose except pleasure in masturbation, therefore it does not serve the purpose the sexual organs were created for.

It has been proven that those who masturbate more than others do not have relationships with women (i don't mean sexual) and it can be a serious problem in which some people only masturbate and don't ever marry or seek the comfort of the opposite sex.
But this is only in some people, a very select few however you are correct it really doesn't hurt anyone.

Good question.

Because to masturbate something must turn you on and that normally requires thoughts of the opposite sex doing something that arouses you or pornography. Both go under the area of adultery. Jesus said if anyone even lusts after a woman he's committed adultery in his heart. That's why most religions consider it a sin.

Yes, it is considered a sin by most evangelical Christians like myself, I cannot speak for other religions.

As to who you are hurting, the answer is two people, yourself and your future or current spouse. By masturbating you are thinking about another person in a sexual manner, which is directly forbidden (see Jesus's quote in the gospels, if you even look at another woman with lust in your heart you are committing adultery).
Second, you are ruining yourself for your future or current spouse, which will damage the relationship between the two of you. If you are so used to pleasing yourself in a particular manner, it makes it harder for your partner to please you. Also, if you are visualizing another person during the act of sex, you are not mentally all "there" for your partner.

I would encourage you to read the book "every man's battle" or "every woman's battle," they go into detail as to why masturbation is wrong.

It's not. Genesis, chapter 38

8: Then Judah said to Onan, "Go in to your brother's wife, and perform the duty of a brother-in-law to her, and raise up offspring for your brother."
9:But Onan knew that the offspring would not be his; so when he went in to his brother's wife he spilled the semen on the ground, lest he should give offspring to his brother.

Sounds to me like the church is trying to control ppl.

He dis-pleased god because he didn't get his dead bro's wife preg, so that she could be eligible for some inheritance.
---Not because he masturbated.

It really isn't hurting anyone. In fact, if you are masturbating, it is really nobody else's business except for your own.

Nothing in the Bible about it directly. Paul teaches against "sexual immorality" so you cant do anything thats immoral....and I think morals are whatever the spirit lays on your heart. For some it masurbation, for others its porn, for others its no illegal porn or stalking.....etc etc.

David

it's hurting their control over you. imagine if people didn't masturbate, and only had sex for procreation. That's a lot of extra energy. Energy for building churches, spreading the word, burning witches, helping out with Inquistions.....

In the New Testament it says we are to refrain from our youthful lusts...and that, dearest, is pretty much a youthful lust!
