I've heard that excessive exercises on muscle can cause atrophy or some other bad effects. I wonder if anybody knows about that?

I've never heard about muscles going into atrophy due to excessive exercise, but you will run the risk of sprains and strains at least. Effective exercise is done slowly over time.

Atrophy (loss of muscle mass) occurs from lack of exercise. Too much stress on a muscle can cause tearing in the muscle or tendons that takes many months to heal; it can cause tendons to separate from the bones, which can become a permanent injury without surgery; and it can cause inflammation or tendonitis that is hard to get rid of. I guess any of these problems could cause atrophy if you had to quit using the muscles for a long period of time while the injuries healed.
