If such an "animal" exists, I have a glimmer of hope for my dream, which is to one day actually OWN a sports car. I like the idea of a back seat (I have kids) and my salary could use tripling.

How about a good old fashion (2005-6-7 Retro look) Muscle car?
Like a Mustang GT..seating for 4 & 300 Clydesdales (horses) under the hood!

Sorry, I don't believe there is any real 4 seater sports car. Most of the time, the back seat is only good for small kids, like what's in Porsches, Audi TT and the like. I actually had 4 adults in my '85 944, but it was only to go to Wendys, and the smaller guys in back didn't like it.
A nissan Z may work.

A 2003 - 2004 Ford Falcon XR6 turbo is a good choice its got 320hp and 450nm of torque , good performance but does'nt carry a high end price tag.

You should test drive a used Lexus GS series or BMW 700 series. Also test drive used Audi and Infinity is good. But Lexus for the money is best deal.

Check out the doge line of cars. I really like the "station wagon" with the hemi motor. Brand new is about in your price range too
