I am from west africa and want to study in england.how do I get a visa? can I apply for a visa then come to england before I make the choice of where in england I want to study? or do I have to contact a university while being in africa to make sure I will have a place before I will be allowed the visa.

I would suggest you to contact the university which you are desired for higher studies, in order to ease the visa procedures. I hope you will get a confirmation from the university for admission. With this confirmation document you can apply for visa at the UK embassy or consulate from your current country of residence.

You need a lots of money to show!
Because most of the Africans as soon as they arrive in UK by work permit or visa, they destroy the passports and claim asylum
