You are right about animal bites causing abscesses. However, there is no real way to control them bursting unless you are able to incise and drain it yourself..

I idea is to GET them to burst so all the pus and infection can drain out. The vet lanced them, drains them and then puts the cat on a dose of antibiotics. If the pus is left in there, the infection will get worse, and it will probably eventually burst, but in the mean time your cat is going to be extremely uncomfortable and maybe become sick from the infection. They are cause from your cat being bitten by another cat, and the bite gets infected (due to the bacteria in a cats saliva). The only prevention is to keep your cat from fighting with other animals which means keeping him indoors. You should go ahead and get your cat to the vet for another drain and medication.

As far as I know you want to to break open and let the poison out of the cats system. I have a cat right know that has abscess on the check. I put peroxide on two Cotton balls and rubbed it on the sore. She rubs her face hard on the cotton balls and it drained this morning. I have done this 3 times today and she will come right to me when I call her. She is a feral cat (spayed) and the wound looks much better know. She is 14 years old and seems quit happy to run to me for help. I will call the vet for antibiotics if I feel this is not the proper way to heal this wound.

You want the abcesses to burst. Small ones (the size of a pimple) can resolve without draining, but anything bigger needs to drain. The thing is, they grow until they burst. It's sort of the way things progress. It can't be helped. You need vet care. It can kill the cat if the bacteria gets into his blood. He needs it cleaned out for him and antibiotics.
The best prevention is keeping him indoors, or confined to a yard. Tall, electrified fences will keep him in and safe and everything else out. You could use an invisible fence. Look them up on the internet. It may be worth it.

That the "bump" has a hole in it is good - that means the noxious pus can drain out of the cat's body. Clean the wound 3 or 4 times a day with agua oxygena (hydrogen peroxide) soaked in cotton balls. Clean it as soon as you see the wound "weeping" pus.
When my cat used to get absecess, I also mixed 50mg human grade Vitamin C in his food to boost up his immune system.. Vet told me to do that when he prescribed amoxycillin.

yes the abscesses are coming from him fighting.is he neutered?if not,do it quickly.has he been tested for feline leukemia/FIV/FIP?if not do it quickly.the reasoning behind that is if he has any kind of the diseases i mentioned that can cause bad skin eruptions, bad teeth, weight loss, runny eyes, diarrhea, vomitting, etc.if you have had him tested and neutered than i would just keep him in the house as he is very territorial.

Abcesses are caused by the Staphylococcus infection. It is better to let them drain instead of keeping it inside.
Here's a link to let you know more about abcessess.

I hope it helps.
