Us christians say we love God. I'm just wondering how come we don't love him like we love are wife/husband you know always geting butterflies and feel tingly inside. Always like to be around that person. I mean how can we feel that way about God? How do we describe our love to God? It just doesn't feel the same as we feel about people opposite sex. This is a stupid question, but what do you think?

You know this is really such a good question ... and would hold true for most of us.
Our relationship with God is a purely spiritual one; yet it penetrates our hearts so poignantly as to bring us to tears of joy and elicit powerful emotional feelings that carry a very profound physiological reaction upon our bodies as well.

Yet there is something special with our spouses.
It is that not only have we committed our spirit and lives, but even our very bodies and intimacy as well.
In a sense we do have an even more profound relationship with our spouse.
But then, it was Jesus who said, regarding marriage:
"Wherefore, they shall be no more twain, but one flesh."
With our spouse, we literally become one.
It is a more complete union than with God.

Also, Jesus spoke of this difference in knowing people physically as compared with how we might know God.
He said, "How can ye love God, whom ye have not seen, when ye cannot love your friends whom ye have seen' [words to that effect - I would have to look then up].

I think we should basically take the Savior's word for it.

It feels different because it is different. Certainly you love the concept of god, and hence can ignore the fact that no such thing exists, but you cannot meaningfully interact with that concept on a daily basis.

From what I hear, there is only one human being who successfully committed adultry with God and lived to tell the tale: Mary. Which means God is a male and if you get those butterfly feelings you will be smited. Sounds like everything is normal to me.

It's like a father son love. There is a respect for his authority and an appreciation for his provisions.

Because deep down people sense that they are "loving" an imaginary being. It's like loving Santa. You can't "love" an invisible, unknowable being like you can a real person. That's natural and normal!

Because 'God' is just that; a psychological trick theists use to feel love and compassion.

It's a way to externalize perfection and then feel that themselves.

They don't need this belief to achieve this, but its better than nothing I suppose.
