It depends on the kind of wart.
If it is a common or plantar wart, there are some over-the-counter things that you can buy. Some of them are acids that you put on the wart, which burn it over time. There are also some home freezing kits that come with a can of very cold liquid. You put the liquid on a swab and then touch the swab to the wart to freeze it and kill it instantly. These should only be used on common or plantar warts, not other kinds of warts, and there is a possibility of your damaging your skin and/or nerves.

See a dermatologist if you have another kind of wart and/or if you want an expert to remove it for you.

if it's a common wart go to the doctor about twice and then go to the the shops and get some wart treatment and put it on every day. don't worry, it doesn't sting. i had a common wart on my wrist, this is what I did and it went in about 1 or 2 months!

you can also try the inexpensive way, tie it with a piece of thread, cutting off the blood circulation causes the wart to eventually dry off, you can cut it with a small pair of scissors or wait for it to fall off on it's own.
