I am really dumb when it comes to cooking; however, I would like to make a small (maybe five pounds if their is such a thing) ham in the slow cooker for Christmas. How do I do it and what other ingredients do I need? 7UP? Pineapple juice? Pineapple? ANY help would be appreciated!

Are there directions on the ham itself as to the degrees and how long to cook it? Like I said, I am dumb!

The beauty of a spiral ham is that it is pre cooked. All you have to do is warm it thoroughly. Most hams have directions on them for doing this. And most of the hams like that which I have used come with a packet of glazing ingredients enclosed.

2 cups packed brown sugar

DIRECTIONS:
1. Spread about 1 1/2 cups of brown sugar on the bottom of the slow cooker crock. Place the ham flat side down into the slow cooker - you might have to trim it a little to make it fit. Use your hands to rub the remaining brown sugar onto the ham. Cover, and cook on Low for 8 hours.

Since it is already cooked you don't have to worry about actually cooking it. Right now you are just sort of cooking some flavor into it.

So you put it into the slow cooker upside down, add some orange juice and a little bit of frangelico liquer. Not to much liquid since you are cooking it in a slow cooker. Maybe about a 1 1/2 cup to 2 cups liquid total. Also add some brown sugar, make sure the top of the ham has a nice layer of brown sugar and honey on it.

Let it cook on lower for about and hour and a half turn the ham over cover ham with a little more brown sugar and honey, maybe add some madarin orange slices or pinapple slices on top.

Cook on low for another hour and a half.

I think spiral ham is already cooked too. For other kinds of ham, use the cookbook that came with your slow cooker, or find slowcooker recipes online. Just google "crock pot ham" or "slow cooker ham" The recipe should tell you what kind of ham to buy.

If you're not yet a good cook, a slow cooker is the right way to go, because you won't have to be as precise.

No---not a spiral ham in a slow cooker! That's too expensive a cut of a ham to use. It just needs to be reheated in the oven anyways. Use a Boneless or Semi Boneless Ham Shoulder/Shank in a slow cooker.

If you are planning on using a slow cooker for a ham; here are some recipes:

Pre-heat your oven to 350 degrees. Mix half a cup of cherry preserves, and half a cup of mustard together in a bowl. Take a knife and gently cut the outside of the entire ham in a grid pattern. Cut just enough to go threw the layer of skin only. Don't cut too deep.Take the mixture of preserves, and mustard and smear it all over the ham. Put the ham and all of the cherry preserves, and mustard mixture into your browning bag. You can purchase browning bags at your grocery store. They are an oven proof plastic bag. Cook the ham about 15 minutes per pound. at 350 degrees.
Putting the ham in a browning bag makes it extra juicy, and I find that using the cherry preserves, and mustard mixture really cuts alot of the salty taste out. When selecting your ham at the grocery store get a leg shank portion. Not the hams that are already heat and serve. Its the upper thigh potion of the pig. It doesn't matter if it says its hickory smoked.

I think spiral hams are already cooked. Maybe wrap it in foil and put it in the oven for a short time to heat up. You don't want to overcook a ham it will dry out. If you buy a ham you need to cook you can use cloves, pineapple juice, cinnamon or brown sugar rubbed on it. YUMMMM!

Do you have one that fits???? If so, it should be ok. Add some sort of liquid, and cook about 4 hours. Apple juice or 7-up, or even water work well.
