Having severe-chronic back pain is not only cause by bad posture or MRI but there are also other factors like deficiency in Vitamin B complex; it could also be a fracture due to vigorous exercise or carrying/lifting heavy stuffs; or perhaps a symptom of an underlying illness.
Try taking a supplement which has high Vitamin B complex contents to calm your nerves. Take a rest and avoid lifting heavy objects til you feel better. If the symptom persists- consult your doctor. I'm sure they can help you best.

Back pain could be caused by a thousand things: poor posture, stress, arthritis, injury due to lifting heavy objects, being overweight and not getting enough exercise and many other things as well. So try to take rests and breaks after living heavy objects, keep good posture, sleep on a firm mattress and etc.
But most importantly you should see a doctor, s/he will provide you with a physical examination or do tests if necessary, to help identify the cause of your problem and then give you the treatment or advice you really need.

An MRI only shows what the problem may be,
It does not offer relief.
Heat, like a hot bath or shower, may help temporarily. Exercise prescribed by a physical therapist, especially in a pool or other water, can be very helpful. Sometimes surgery can help. I have been going to acupuncture for chronic neck and upper and lower back pain.
It hasn't cured me, but I can do more real work again and I'm hoping it will cure me.
Magnesium supplements are good. Magnesium relaxes muscles and prevents spasms.

First your doctor would get ordinary x-rays of your back only after that would an mri scan be necessary they cost a lot here to have one .Pain killers and and herbal medication called glycosamine work best along with swimming if you have somewhere close .But 1 other thing that sounds crazy does work for me that is arching your back streching your stomach muscles taking the strain of vital organs as well do this each time you feel the pain coming on it takes the strain of the spine and does help,you can even try using a flat pillow under your back while you sleep .Like i said it sounds crazy but it works I dont use the pillow but as soon as i get pain i arch my back for a few minutes you will be surprised how it works unless of course you have something very serious besides arthritis.

Depends on what part of the back is hurting and why...If you have herniated disks you may require back surgery......If surgery is not the answer or you have already had surgery I will tell you what I do for my lower back pain which is chronic and sometimes severe. I use ice packs, 20 minutes on 20 minutes off, if it feel better to you use a heating pad do so for the same duration. I have a TENS unit which is an electrical device which runs on batteries, you place the two sticky pads on either side of the pain. The pads connect to this small box in which you decide via knobs what strength of electric stimulation you can take..I turn mine to just below untolerable...The signal your body receives takes the place of the pain signal going to the brain...It really does work, and can be used anywhere you have pain. Some days I only have to wear an hour and pain is gone, others a couple of hours...Can be worn on waist of pants like cell phone, easy to cover....I also unfortunately require pain medication at times...I use Hydrocodone/Acetaminophen combination but try antiinflammatory medications first, like motrin, generic is Ibuprophen and you can take up to 800mg per day, but take with food because it can harm your stomach. I have injections done in my back with steroids at least once a year, done through a pain management clinic....Proper body mechanics are a must with chronic back pain..Be very consious of how you lift, reach, turn at the waist, etc..A good mattress is a must. It needs to be firm, if you don't like a firm mattress, get one anyway and put a pad on top to make it more comfortable, if ;you cannot afford a new mattress put a piece of 3/4 inch plywood between your mattress and box spings....Sleep with a pillow between the knees to keep back in alignment if you sleep on your side, if you sleep on your back put the pillow under both knees to ease the muscles in the lower back. Getting eight hours of sleep a night gives your back the rest it needs. I learned that when you are standing there is 100 times your weight on your spine. TRUE! So wear good shoes with ample arch support and good soles.... If it is your lower back do stretches in the morning before you get out of bed, (bring one knee up to chest hold for five seconds, put down, bring other knee to chest, hold for five seconds and then without putting leg down bring lower leg to chest so you have both up and hold for ten seconds. This stretches your lower back muscles; which brings me to other medication you can take, like muscle relaxers, if it's a neurological pain(burning pain) there are medications for that like Neurotin. Try to use the narcotic pain relievers as little as possible but don't suffer, if you are able walking or swimming are the best exercises for back pain....I hope this information, (all from my personal experience) helps...If you are not hooked up with a pain management clinic then do so, they are your greatest resource, ask a lot of questions, even about the stuff I told you.....You can find them in the yellow pages under Pain Management.....Hope you feel better soon...
