I Love the idea of adding the green garland to fill in, that is an excellent idea.
Two years ago on some decorating show I saw this idea and loved it.
Flatten out each branch, so each level becomes a "shelf". Then lay the lights on each level, spread them around so they are everywhere you want them. (They will be a snap to take down.) I happen to love poinsettias and have lots of red and white silk ones. I insert bunches of the flowers,(adjust the wires on them so they are also flat. ) alternating three bunches of red then white on each level then alternate them in the opposite colors on the next level (these are flowers from the dollar store and I have used them off and on for 13 years, so they were a bargain. This fills the tree beautifully. It adds an entire extra level between each existing one.
Then all of the ornaments hang on the tips.
You could easily change the color scheme any time you want. Change the color of flowers or spray paint the poinsettias or use silver or foil holly bunches. They spray really well. I have done all gold before. Also all white. Since the flowers are all in bunches and the lights are on each layer, not wound through the tree, it is a snap to decorate. This lets you use really nice ornaments on the outside and makes the job so easy.
HAPPY HOLIDAYS EVERYONE.

I have the best answer for that. The rec where I was volunteering put up the same ratty artificicial christmas tree they have had for years. When we decorated it it looked like a death ceremony, so we went to Walmart and bought garland that looks like pine needles exactly in the artificial xmas trees. This stuff is strung on bendable wire so you can wrap it around the stem of the tree and get it to protrude in the 'scanty areas;. Also try buying those fluffy metallic boas and spreading them around your tree in a sort of wave tier formation it'll cover and disguise the gaps.. throwing tinsel to cover the spaced out areas by making it fall over is also a good idea!! GOOD LUCK hope that helps.

A sparse tree is not always a bad thing. It will enable you to suspend your most "special" ornaments to their best advantage. Icicles also will look almost real, suspended in the bare space. You could also buy a bolt of tulle in the wedding section of a craft store, and use it like a garland. Once you've strung it on, fluff it out fuller. What about filling the holes up with small picture frames with family photos tied to the branches with ribbon? Don't think of it as " half empty", think of it as "half full"....Charlie Brown loved his. Yours only needs some love.

I like greyrainbow's idea best. We bought a new 7 ft. prelit artificial tree at walmart 2 yrs ago for $35.00 the week after christmas. It was a display tree, and had sat on the shelf put up before Christmas. Well worth the price, so if you want to get a new one that's the time to do it.

lol..if you have like a newer artificial tree..you should look for gaps in the tree and move the branches around to cover them...thats what i did..and when u put the ornaments and lights on u can barely tell.. the thing with fake trees u have to buy the semi-expensive ones or else you will be screwing urself over..you cant buy the cheapy ones
