well you have to be strong and not pick up a cigarette when you feel the urge to and each time it will get easier but the first few weeks will be the hardest of you life try looking at it as a life or death problem I did it 18 yrs ago i was sick with a bad cold and three months pregnant and the doctor told me to either quit smoking or take the Chance of losing the baby so i quit but just to let you know i had quit smoking two times before this one once for a year the next time was for six months then the big one still not smoking but the more you are a way from it the more you can smell what you smell like people who smoke can not smell the smoke on then it is almost like when you go camping and stand by the camp fire and the smoke blows your way and then you smell your clothes later and they stink well that's what a smoker smells like you will begin to smell other smokers and think i used to smell like that yuk don't get me wrong you will still want a cigarette even after 18 years i would like one but then i think what a waste those 18 yrs would be so i don't it is just up to you good luck

Just do it.
That might seem like a trite answer, but that's it.
You just tell yourself that you are a nonsmoker, and then spend the rest of your life continuing that lifestyle.

The first step is to get rid of all your smoking paraphernalia. Cigarettes, obviously, but also lighters, ash trays, rolling papers, whatever. You're a nonsmoker, so you won't need them. If you see that stuff around you'll just want to smoke.

Then, do whatever you can to avoid the triggers that make you want to smoke. One big trigger for a lot of people is the taste in their mouth at certain times of day. For example, people who smoke first thing in the morning often associate "morning mouth" taste with wanting to smoke. People who smoke after meals often associated food taste with wanting to smoke. And so on. If you change the taste in your mouth, you can avoid some of these triggers. I have heard that grapefruit juice works really well for this, and also cinnamon mouthwash.

If you have friends who smoke, avoid them for a while. Basically, avoid all of the habitual things that you did that were associated with smoking. You are conditioned to smoke in those situations, so if you change the situation, your smoking conditioning won't kick in.

Obviously you might experience some cravings that you'll have to deal with. Try spending your energy on something worthwhile: a hobby, taking a walk, and so forth. Also, don't forget to pray. God created your body and He wants you to take care of it, so I think He'll be willing to help you with your healthier lifestyle.

I have heard that taking Vitamin C helps too. Don't get worried if you cough more than usual; it's your body clearing out all the gunk in your lungs. Now that you're a nonsmoker your body can clean itself up finally.

I'm behind you 100%!

Sounds like you're ready (step one) I went to a hypnotist Feb 28, 2006 and haven't had a cigarette. I would dream that I couldnt breathe & would wake up & COULDNT BREATHE. I was determined (as it sounds like you are) to do whatever it took...I used the smoking lozenge (I hate chewing gum) for the trigger moments. My goal was to RUN up a hill by my house (I did it) and the $$$ is such a bonus. Good luck!

It takes time and effort. GO for nicotine gum and patches. I hope you find the strength to make it. The nicotine infused products DO help. But it's a long process.
