A common thread to theist theories is that God(s) have an important hand in creating us. So if we could create something that, like us, could act and perpetuate itself without our further intervention, would we be considered to have god-like status?

Interesting theory. If we could create an electronic conscience, that would be no small feat of engineering. I'm sure the computers would do a better job at ruling the planet than we're currently doing.

God-like status is NOT the same thing as "being God", and in order to truly answer this question you need to be very specific about what you mean by "God" - my idea of "God" is probably very different than yours and many other people. To me, "God" is the natural universe - not the supernatural.

Imitating the acts of God does not make us God. We wouldn't be doing anything original or new, nor would be working with anything that didn't already exist.

It would be interesting, thought, to see if the computer saw us as God....

humans will never EVER create a totally dependable robot that have emotions, able to think for his own, learn, dream, eat, drink, grow, make love, reproduce, bear children, feed children, children grow up...etc.

humans can hardly create a robot that tries to simulate human being (just from the outside) with absolutely no feelings

No cuz God gives us the idea to make the computers, he gives us the knowledge. We cant create anything without him or do anything without him.

By the computers, yes, if we programmed that belief into them, at least until they figured out that they could outthink us and that we weren't all that clued in and wise.
